What you might want to know about me...

I grew up in Blair, Ne swearing I would leave when I got done with high school.  That didn't happen.  I ended up getting a soccer scholarship to Dana College where I graduated as the last graduating class due to it closing July 2010.  While at Dana College I met my husband, Jake, through my soccer teammate.  After 3 1/2 years of dating, we got married after we graduated and recently celebrated our one year anniversary.  We adopted a dog from the Human Society 4 years ago and she is our "baby".  No children in the near future (I want to wait until we are done with grad school).  After getting married and accepting a fourth grade teacher position at Plattsmouth, my husband and I FINALLY got out of Blair and moved to Bellevue.  It is definitely an adjustment for me to go from a small town with not much to do, to a big town with TONS to do!  I mean everything is open past 8:30-9:00! WOW!

I finished up my first year of teaching and loved every minute of it.  I had an amazing class of fourth graders and had some amazing parents that came with those students.  I still tell everyone that if it was not for the open communication with my students' parents, I wouldn't have been able to survive!  I learned so much over my first year with the help of some amazing teachers.  They made me feel very comfortable and it was easy finding answers to my never ending questions!  Even though I was the youngest teacher, they made me feel like I had been their for a while and allowed me to offer my opinions and ideas out on the table.

I am excited to get started on my masters program this summer.  I will be taking this class along with two other classes through Peru during the summer.  I will definitely be busy with these classes and work, but I have set my goals high for this summer and will be looking at achieving them!  I might ask a lot of questions this summer, but I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to answer them knowing I have two other classes that kind of all seem to connect with each other!  I hope, with the help of the rest of my classmates and teacher, I learn new things that I can take and use in my second year of teaching.

  1. Steph-
I completely agree that open communication and the help of my coworkers have made my first few years at NLS more sane. I was and still am amazed at the difference an active parent in a child’s education can be. Isn’t it great?
I am also taking two other classes this summer for my masters. Maybe we can bounce our questions and ideas off of eachother!

  2. Steph,
Congratulations on completing your first year of teaching! What a milestone! I was instantly attracted to your page- your witty introduction paired with the colorful dashboard show a glimpse of what I can only assume is a stellar personality. Well done. Good luck this summer!

  3. Congratulations on making the decision to start your Masters degree! It sounds like you have a lot on your plate this summer with the three classes at Peru. I know that the other two summer course you are taking can seem challenging, but remember to relax and enjoy the experience. I truly learned a lot my first summer with Peru and realized how to truly conduct research that was applicable and accurate. Best of luck as you start this new endeavor!

  4. I am glad there is another first year teacher in this class. It sounds like you had a great year. I loved my first year & am anxious for this next year too. I am sure you are like me and are looking for things to improve what you did this year to continue to make each lesson the best it can be.

Yes Plattsmouth is very close to Bellevue. My husband and I lived in Bellevue last year, but recently bought a house in Gretna.
